 Success is guaranteed
to be achieved by someone.

What do you think is your probability of success?
For every personal or organizational goal, there will always be those who succeed and those who don't.

For any level of achievement that can be identified and measured, some people will be the most successful, and others will be at the bottom level with little or no success.

The Modern Positivity Formula

We define success as achieving a specific goal. We're not judging whether a goal is good or bad, useful or worthless. People, organizations, and businesses all have goals they want to achieve, and there are observable successes and failures.
How do you increase the probability that you are one of the success stories?
I've used my research experience to identify the fundamentals and patterns of success that can be consistently observed.
There are hundreds of concepts for how to achieve success – in philosophy, spirituality, education, organizational theory, and sociological and psychological disciplines. The search for the common denominators of consistent success has been a quest for thousands of years. Today success strategy programs for sale or in educations are a multibillion-dollar industry.

There is a very core characteristic of success.
Modern Positivity is what I eventually identified and accepted as the single most important factor in success: a consistent level of Positivity about my goal that coexists with a modest but necessary level of Negativity (fear, doubt, uncertainty). Success practices have to recognize both risk and opportunity, and Negativity is our risk assessor.

The optimal success condition is to have a level of Positivity that significantly improves the probability that you will be in the prime zone for where most events occur. There will always be exceptional levels of success and failure, but most things happen in the middle.

There are several common problems with how we approach success today. People often look for shortcuts, fail to recognize different options from their expectations or cannot adapt to the inevitable exceptions and diversions. Nothing is impossible. But if you are consistently and predominantly negative about trying to achieve your goals, it's unlikely that you will succeed.  Common-sense Positivity finally made sense to me. From my research and personal and organizational experience, I had the common-sense realization that I had used for many years but never considered a formal success strategy. It was too simple. Positivity is not just what popularly called "positive thinking," although it is the major component. Positivity is a set of ideas, beliefs, attitudes, discipline, motivation, choices and actions that all must be consistently aligned in pursuit of your goals.  I can summarize the overall Positivity with concepts the 4Ps:Purpose - A clear, definite goal, a vision of what you want to achieve. Persistence – Keep working, adapting to new information, deal with obstacles, maintain effort. Positivity - The foundation of maintaining purpose and persistence to increase the probability of success.  Probability - It's possible to achieve the goal –it's been done by others –a specific, measurable level of effort and Positivity to achieve the statistical likelihood that you can achieve the goal.
Why 68%?
A statistical view of success probability. Improve your position in the natural order of probability.  The basic normal distribution or bell-shaped curve shows that in the universe of all possibilities, most activity occurs in the middle, and higher or lower levels of the measured activity fall away to the extremes.

You can't change the nature of the universal curve. But you can change your place in the normal distribution of events and opportunities.

The average is good. It's the starting point for advancing your success. The goal for the individual or the organization is to have at least an average level or probability of success.
The ultimate goal is to shift the probability of success further to the right to be among the most successful performers with a higher probability of success.

Mathematical note: it's true there are many different types of statistical distributions other than the normal distribution. Regardless of the exact shape of the curve, there will always be performers at the highest levels and those at the lowest levels of performance. Regardless of your goal or the nature of the environment, modern Positivity can help you increase the probability of success for any realistic goal.

The goal is to reach a sustained level of 68% or greater of Positivity about your goals. The higher the level of Positivity, it's likely you will also have a greater level of confidence and persistence that will keep you on the path to success.

Why Negativity exists and is so difficult to overcome.
Positive thoughts are necessary; negative thoughts are inevitable. You don't have to be 100% positive to be successful, and every negative will not destroy your plan.

We are wired to be negative. Negativity is dominant in our psychology. Humans have a natural negativity bias as our ancient survival skill. But we need to learn to survive in our world today, and the negative risks are different than from our prehistoric ancestors.

The goal of practical Positivity is to learn to manage the positive, negative and uncertainty/doubt so that the negatives do not overwhelm your positive aspirations and efforts.

The usual advice is to have positive thoughts "most of the time".
But no teaching could tell me what "most of the time" really meant.

I had to discover the answer for myself. We are experts at creating and believing negative thoughts. But we have trouble creating, believing and sustaining positive thoughts. So it's comforting to know that I don't have to fear every negative thought; it's normal, but don't let Negative become new normal for your goal.

Most of the time is 68%.
